Originally from Detroit, John relocated to Georgia in 1997. Before his career in education, he was an accountant and a stay-at-home father for his son, Lucas, who graduated from FSA, then Paideia and now attends Clemson University. John’s first teaching experience was at Atlanta Progressive Preschool (now Turning Sun School), which follows the Reggio Emilia philosophy, an emergent curriculum that follows the interests of students and asks questions to facilitate critical thinking and a deeper understanding of subject knowledge. He was a substitute in almost every class at FSA before joining the faculty full-time. John fundraises for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation and has written a young adult science fiction novel that he hopes to get published.
