Laurie began producing materials for digital interactive education in the late 1990s, when she worked with a professor at Haverford College to create an online textbook based on his introductory philosophy course. She later learned the coding side of digital experience design at Georgia Tech, where her master’s project was an augmented reality tour of historic buildings in downtown Atlanta. Laurie constantly refines her understanding of the digital world with the goal of providing the best possible service to the school. Laurie has served on the Quaker Life Committee, the Accreditation Committee, and the Friends for Racial Justice and Action Committee. In the larger community, she has been active in environmental causes. She co-founded an organization that saved an old-growth forest in DeKalb County and received the President’s Award from the Georgia Urban Forest Council in 2018.
