The Friends School of Atlanta has extended its values-based education to a full-day preschool (PreK3) class for 3–year–olds. The lower elementary school also includes a mixed-age PreK4/Kindergarten class. The school day runs from 8:15 am to 3:15 am, with before care (as early as 7:45 am) and after care (until 6:00 pm) included in the cost of tuition.
The program for the PreK3 class follows the guidelines of the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC), offering a loving learning environment with plenty of time for play as well as a curriculum emphasizing learning readiness. And of course the program is guided by the values we call the SPICES: simplicity, peace, integrity, community, equality and stewardship.
The PreK4/Kindergarten class features whole-class activities as well as age-appropriate breakout sessions for academics. The youngest students learn through a developmentally appropriate curriculum that explores math, reading and writing through manipulative materials and firsthand experiences. Science, social studies and geography are interwoven in exciting unit studies. For more detailed information, see the PreK4 Curriculum Guide and and the Kindergarten Curriculum Guide.
